This is just one of those little thoughts that you want to capture before you fall asleep.
I think it’s interesting that, in The Fault in Our Stars, Augustus is so preoccupied with rehearsed metaphor (although he is perhaps at his most lovable during spontanious breaks in plan), and John Green has carefully crafted Augustus’s life to be full of symbolism and metaphor. (Augustus’s plane television starts a few seconds earlier than Hazel’s, for example.) How much of symbolism is to reflect the needs of the characters themselves?
